Student Spotlights
High School
- Matt Saville, a Rockville High sophomore, is very awesome. He is so awesome that he deserves a spot in the spotlight!
- A piece of artwork painted by one of our students, Aya Kuzbari, recently was displayed by a group called VSA Arts, an international organization affiliated with the Kennedy Center and dedicated to people with disabilities. It sold for $100, and Aya even got a commission for it! Take a moment to see Aya's painting. Congratulations, Aya!

- The Montgomery County Recreation Department’s Youth Art Exhibition in November and December included a photograph by Chetana Senadhira. She has been taking photos since she was 2 years old.
Middle School
- Rigel Wolf-Hubbard, an eighth-grader at Hoover Middle School, has participated in many drama productions, including his recent performance as the ghost of Hamlet's father in “Hamlet,” and Oberon in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” in the production of Villains, Lovers, and Ghosts: An Evening of Shakespeare presented by students from Hoover and Churchill High School in October.
Elementary School
- Anne Hauprich's class at Flower Valley would like to share news about their "Cooking Activities" that they use each week to reinforce language, reading and writing. In November, Mrs. Hauprich's class made delicious treats like Chocolate Pudding Pie, popcorn, and “Lazy Lions.” They had a special visit from Alex Kovalsky's mom, who showed them how to make a special hamburger treat. Alex Kovalsky and Me Mackleer made buns with vanilla wafers, and Tonya Ghonda sprinkled them with sesame seeds. The burger itself was a delicious round chocolate cookie and Juan Rivas, Jaclyn Gleicher and Alex Mantozouranis added mayonnaise, mustard and ketchup made from colored icing. Lena Portolano used green food coloring to make green coconut (lettuce). When they put it all together it was much more delicious than a real hamburger and much more fun to make!!
Alumni
- Charles "Pike" Sterling, a 2001 graduate of the D/HOH program, is a senior at Rochester Institute of Technology majoring in Business and Finance. He is also the President of the RIT/NTID Student Government. He and his parents want to say thanks for all the support and dedication of so many caring Montgomery County educators and fellow parents.
